We enjoyed the location- everything was close by. Staying in such an historical building was fascinating and we enjoyed the ambience. We loved the king size bed. We loved the breakfast
The cleanliness of the room was fine but the general upkeep - as in very dirty fly wire screens on balcony doors and cigarette butts in ash tray on outside table were disappointing. The balcony also needed sweeping. The bathroom requires an exhaust fan.
Reception upon arrival - we didnt realise that reception closed at 5pm untill we arrived at 5.45pm . Upon arrival we booked in ( wasnt overjoyed to see us) and following going up to check our room we came down to get our bags to find reception window shut and no staff. I am sure there was someone in the buidling but being sunday night there was no dining or bar. Many lighst were off so it had quite a sad opressive feel to it.
Toasted meusli burnt. Dining room Entree selection needs expansion
The suite was excellent, just as described. Full king sized bed, spa bath ensuite, flat screen TV and mini bar. Decor of room and hotel in general was very good, reflecting its claim to be genuine 1880's era accomodation.
Breakfast (full English) was included in price. However it was disgraceful, food was cold, very little left on buffet, and plates were cold. This in spite of fact we were in dining room at 8.30am. Waitress seemed more interested in ending her shift as soon as possible, Perhaps she was deaf? I did complain to reception, they told me my comments would be "noted". We will not be returning to this venue!
the great dinner and service at the restaurant.
The restaurant meal was first class - great value, top chef and waiting staff, wonderful food. This was Dinner .
Comfortable bed and nice breakfast included in tariff.
Beautiful cooked breakfast on the Sunday morning. Great location. Cafe at the front was very nice
Breakfast fare on offer was of a good standard. The staff were helpful and pleasant.
Everything felt and looked very "tired" and out of date. The sparkle we recall from previous stays (in the 1980's and 90's) is gone.
There was not much to like at all. It was terribly expensive (over $300 for the night) yet our room was dark, with no outlook except onto a brick wall one metre away. There was a beer garden and toilets next to our room and constant loud noise throughout the night. The large bed was actually two single beds pushed together so we had the uncomfortable gap making it difficult to sleep snuggled up with one another. The breakfast the next morning was fairly unappertising and other guests looked as demoralized as we felt. We had booked the room about 3-4 weeks beforehand, and we were really looking forward to enjoying our stay - only to find the entire experience was a complete debacle.
When we let staff know about the major problems with staying at the Vue Grand (no window in the bathroom, ugly window in the bedroom looking onto a brick wall, constant noise all night from the beer garden under the window, bed situated under the window so light came in all night, two single beds pushed together with an uncomfortable gap, plumbing noises all night from the toilets next door, a fairly unappertising breakfast and so on) the staff tried to placate us with a $20 reduction in price (from over $300 per night). Given that about $100 per night might be what you would pay for an equivalent experience at another hotel, we were singularly unimpressed with the meagre reduction. But I guess the poultry reduction was just indicative of the overall cynical, rip-off and exploitative approach adopted by the Vue Grand towards their customers. We were just relieved that we had only booked for one night!
The balcony furniture was very good, gave our room an extra space, but no outside light for the evening. The breakfast was a highlight, especially in the beautiful dining room. Great walks close by.
No outside light to the balcony for the evening.
The staff were excellent and your facility matched your staff's good service.Caleb was excellent in your resturant as well as his support staff. We booked a balcony room as I am a smoker and being able to relax and smoke on the balcony as well as all the previous reasons I have offered, enable us to enjoy our stay with you guys.Well done.
Good location to Blues Train which was our reason for staying. Reception staff were very attentive to questions and issues. Liked the relaxed bar and comfortable lounge and courtyard area.Good wine list of local wines. Bed large and comfortable.
Whilst hotel has olde world charm and obviously historical, the rooms need refurbishing - for the price these are very overrated. Peeling varnish on vanity, shower rose that slipped and overall tired and dated. Breakfast had a good selection but no 'real' coffee. No paper offered to the room
We love the old style and design of the Vue Grand, and will be back to stay shortly.
great spa and nice quiet atmosphere. great breakfast.
I would have liked to see soy milk offered as part of the buffet breakfast.
